Further Information

Who it’s for

Anyone who wants to reduce their risk of catching flu or becoming seriously unwell from it. The flu vaccine is especially important for older adults, pregnant women, people with certain health conditions, carers, frontline health or social care workers, and anyone advised to have a seasonal flu vaccination. You’re welcome to drop in or book a slot online, depending on availability.

What we can check

Before giving the vaccine, our pharmacy team will check whether the flu vaccine is suitable for you. We may ask about your age, health conditions, current medicines, allergies, pregnancy status, and whether you have had a flu vaccine before. This helps us make sure the vaccination is given safely and appropriately.

What happens

Your vaccination takes place in our private consultation room and only takes a few minutes. A trained member of the pharmacy team will ask a few health questions, explain the vaccine, and give the injection in your upper arm. You may be asked to wait briefly afterwards if needed, especially if you have a history of allergies or feel unwell after injections.

What your results mean

The flu vaccine helps your immune system recognise and respond to flu viruses, reducing your risk of serious illness, complications, and hospitalisation. Protection usually builds within around two weeks. We’ll explain any common side effects to look out for, such as a sore arm, tiredness, headache, mild fever, or muscle aches, and advise what to do if you feel unwell afterwards.

About COVID Vaccine

The flu vaccine helps protect against seasonal flu, which can cause serious illness in some people. Because flu viruses change over time, a new vaccine is recommended each year to help protect against the strains most likely to circulate. Having your vaccine at the pharmacy is a quick and convenient way to stay protected during flu season.
