Who it’s for
Adults who would like to know their numbers, especially anyone aged 40 and over or who hasn’t had a recent check. It’s also worth doing if high blood pressure runs in your family, or if you simply want peace of mind. You’re welcome to drop in or book a slot online.
What happens
The check takes around ten minutes in our private consultation room. A member of the pharmacy team measures your blood pressure using a simple arm cuff, often taking more than one reading for an accurate result. If a clearer picture would help, we may offer 24 hour monitoring you can do at home. Everything is explained as we go.
What your results mean
We’ll talk you through your reading and what it means for you. Many results are perfectly healthy and simply offer reassurance. If your reading is raised, we’ll explain the next steps, which may include further monitoring or a referral to your GP. You won’t be left unsure of what to do.
Good to know
A single high reading doesn’t always mean a problem, as blood pressure can rise temporarily. For the most accurate result, try to avoid caffeine, smoking and exercise just beforehand, and rest for a few minutes before your check. Small everyday changes, such as staying active, eating well and cutting back on salt, can also help keep your blood pressure healthy.
About blood pressure
Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. When it stays too high over time, it puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels and can raise the risk of serious problems such as heart attack and stroke. Because it rarely causes symptoms, regular checks are the best way to spot and manage it early.
