This service may be suitable for women with symptoms of an uncomplicated urinary tract infection, such as pain or burning when passing urine, needing to urinate more often, urgency, cloudy urine, or lower abdominal discomfort. Eligibility depends on your age, symptoms, medical history, pregnancy status, and whether there are signs of a more serious infection.
What we can check
Our pharmacy team will ask about your urinary symptoms, how long they have been present, whether you have back pain, fever, blood in your urine, nausea, or feel generally unwell. We may also ask about pregnancy, allergies, current medicines, previous UTIs, and any kidney or bladder problems. This helps us decide whether Pharmacy First is suitable.
What happens
Your consultation takes place in a private pharmacy setting. A pharmacist will ask confidential health questions and assess whether your symptoms fit an uncomplicated UTI. If suitable, they may recommend treatment or self-care advice. If your symptoms suggest a more serious infection, we’ll explain where to get further medical support.
What your results mean
The pharmacist will explain whether your symptoms are likely to be an uncomplicated UTI and what you should do next. If treatment is supplied, you’ll be told how to take it, possible side effects, and when to expect improvement. We’ll also explain when to seek urgent help, especially if symptoms worsen or you develop fever, back pain, or feel very unwell.
About Urinary Tract Infection
A urinary tract infection happens when bacteria enter the urinary system, often causing burning, urgency, or frequent urination. Many uncomplicated UTIs can be managed through Pharmacy First if the patient is eligible, but some symptoms may need GP or urgent medical assessment.
